Our Operations
Colors Operations is responsible for the pre-sorting, grading and packing facilities as well as the cold-storage infrastructure owned and managed by the Colors Group.
Comprising eight facilities across the country, our packhouses provide employment for 2000 people, and are geographically distributed as follows:
- Novo, Paarl, Western Cape Province (apples, pears, plums and nectarines)
- Citrus Select, Citrusdal, Western Cape Province (oranges, lemons, grapefruit and easy peelers)
- Groenkloof, Citrusdal, Western Cape Province (oranges, lemons, grapefruit and easy peelers)
- Neofresh, Malelane, Mpumalanga Province (Hectorspruit) (papaya, litchi, oranges, lemons, grapefruit and easy peelers)
- Sun Citrus Packers, Kirkwood, Eastern Cape Province(oranges, lemons, grapefruit and easy peelers)
- Hankey Citrus Packers, Hankey, Eastern Cape Province (oranges, lemons, grapefruit and easy peelers)
- Magaliesberg Fruit Packers, Rustenburg, North West Province (nectarines, peaches and plums)
- Welgemoed, Wellington, Western Cape Province (apples, pears and plums)
These combined facilities, handling as much as 40% of the fruit marketed by Colors, provide us with a significant degree of influence and control over this critical phase in the fruit marketing supply chain. In all, our facilities have a storage and cooling capacity of some 8 000 m2, a fruit handling capacity of 130 000 tons. All packhouse facilities are equipped with the latest sorting and grading technology, enabling us to grade for colour and size with great accuracy. This is done by making use of sophisticated digital imaging technology capable of high specification blemish and colour grading.
